Overview
Lü Yaomin was a bondservant under the Plain Yellow Banner during the Qing Dynasty. His family had lived in Shangyang Fort for generations, and the exact time of their submission is unknown. His name is recorded under the entry for the "Lü Family" in Volume 78 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, compiled during the Qianlong reign, along with a list of some of his descendants' official positions. This entry does not record any official appointments held by Lü Yaomin himself; therefore, any information about his life should be based on his banner affiliation, former residence, and family records.
The original text states that his grandson, Zhaoqi, served as an Inner Guard Commander, and his great-great-grandson, Hese, served as a Military Guard Officer. "Great-great-grandson" is the proper way to write "great-great-grandson" in genealogy, indicating a generational gap between "grandson" and "grandson." Zhaoqi and Hese should not be mistakenly written as father and son. The Inner Guard Commander was an official position related to the duties of bondservants in the imperial court, while the Military Guard Officer was a title responsible for related military affairs. These were not the same position, nor does it imply that Lü Yaomin himself held these positions.
Shangyang Fort is a historical place name, related to settlements and local history in the Liaodong region. However, this passage in the "General Genealogy" only proves that it was recorded as the ancestral home of the Lü Yaomin family. It cannot be determined from the place name itself that their ancestors were exiled persons, nor can it determine the modern street address where the family lived. This passage is suitable for explaining how the Eight Banners family, Banner status, and official positions of their descendants are simultaneously presented in Qing Dynasty genealogies.
