Overview
Wuling'e, also known as Wuling'e, is listed in Volume 53 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* under the entry for the Heyi Clan. He belonged to the Plain Yellow Banner and his family had lived in Shulehe for generations; the year of his submission is unknown. The genealogy records that this branch had been paying tribute for generations, and he led 31 households and 115 able-bodied men to submit, relocating to Ningguta. They served alongside the existing Manchu officers and soldiers, and Wuling'e was awarded the rank of Qiduwei and appointed zuoling (military officer).
Households and able-bodied men are different units of population; 115 able-bodied men cannot be directly converted into the same number of combat soldiers. zuoling refers both to a basic organizational unit and the official managing that unit, who was in charge of household registration, land ownership, and military records. Qiduwei, on the other hand, was a hereditary title of merit; the conferment of the title and the appointment of zuoling were two separate matters.
After Wuling'e's death, his grandson Kong'eluo inherited the title, which was then inherited by Kong'eluo's son, Fuerjidai. His sons Dahani and Manda also served as zuoling, and his grandson Duxike served as a military officer. The original text lists Heyi as a Manchu surname, Ningguta as a place of migration, and Shulehe as the ancestral home. Existing records provide clues about population migration and family positions, but do not provide an accurate year of assimilation or the modern location of Shulehe.
