Overview

Feng Shiyong is listed in Volume 78 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, under the entry for the Feng clan. He belonged to the Bordered Yellow Banner's bondservant class and was a native of Shenyang. The compiler noted that the year of his arrival was unknown and did not list any official positions held by Feng Shiyong himself; what can be confirmed at present is mainly the official positions held by his descendants across several generations.

The genealogy records that his great-great-grandson Feng Erpeng served as a military officer, and Feng Errui as a clerk. His fourth-generation descendant Feng Dexin served as a county magistrate, and Feng Dezhao as a county assistant magistrate; his fifth-generation descendant Chang Geng served as a county magistrate at the time the genealogy was compiled, while Fuyan and Feng Zhang served as clerks; his sixth-generation descendant Yinglian served as an assistant prefect. Unlike the common records of Eight Banners military officials, the descendants of Feng Shiyong also show records of county and prefectural administrative officials and local assistant officials, indicating that the same branch of the family pursued different career paths at different times.

The magistrate, assistant magistrate, and deputy magistrate were local officials of different ranks and responsibilities; their promotion process cannot be fabricated based on their order of appointment. Feng Dexin and Feng Dezhao are both fourth-generation descendants in the original text, not Feng Shiyong's biological sons. The genealogy does not provide specific county names or dates of service; further verification with local gazetteers is necessary for further research.
