Overview
The Juejia clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 58 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, an official compilation from the Qianlong reign. Their ancestral home was Zhangtuli and Fola. Yindahuqi of the Plain Red Banner resided in Zhangtuli and submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty; his grandson, Batu, served as a military officer. Fakuli of the Bordered Red Banner resided in Fola; the year of their submission is unknown. Their grandson, Sahalian, and great-grandson, Nahai, both served as military officers, and their great-great-grandson, Ahada, served as a cavalry officer.
The Plain Red Banner and the Bordered Red Banner were two different banners and cannot be simply referred to as a single branch of the Red Banner. The accounts of their submission also differ; the original text has no reason to suggest that Fakuli submitted at the same time as Yindahuqi, or to consider the two branches as a single migration and division.
The military officer commanded the subordinate guards, undertaking tasks such as guarding and accompanying troops on campaigns, while the cavalry officer was a basic military unit within the banner system. The descendants of Fakuli held military positions for generations, which is documented through records of their service. However, there is no direct record of any specific military merit or hereditary title, so the actual official positions cannot be changed to hereditary titles. The various official positions belong to different generations and do not pertain to the individual at the beginning of the genealogy. The location of Zhangtuli village, the close kinship between the two branches, the Manchu surname, and the terms of office of the officials are still pending verification. The original name of the mother clan, Fakuli, will be retained without being replaced with similar-sounding Chinese characters.
