Background and Banner Affiliation
Huzhan was a Guwalgiya figure of the Bordered Yellow Banner whose ancestral locality was the Changbai mountain region. The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, volume 2, records his early submission but attributes most subsequent military achievements to fifth-generation descendants. Anchong'a served as a guard-unit officer in the attack on Tingzhou in Fujian, entered the walls early and received both the bravery honorific baturu and the hereditary distinction qidu wei. Another descendant, Aihana, fought in campaigns in Guangxi, Yunnan and at Ulan Butung, receiving yunqiwei.
Career, Campaigns, and Offices
The baturu honorific celebrated courage, while qidu wei and yunqiwei were inheritable military awards. Anchong'a's title increased following an imperial favor; his grandson Tu'ertai inherited it, with subsequent deductions of the favor-based portion. Aihana also held an infantry-unit command, an active office distinct from the hereditary award.
Hereditary Honors and Source Limits
A further fifth-generation descendant, Mo'erhun, fought in Fujian and Yunnan and received a posthumous yunqiwei, inherited by his younger brother Ga'erhan and then by an adopted son Gazhu. The adoption is explicitly stated and should not be recast as biological descent. Sixth-generation descendants Huanghai and Zhongbao served in the Imperial Stables, banner command and the Board of Punishments, respectively. These later careers cannot be attributed to Huzhan. The family's exact Changbai settlement remains unidentified. Source: Eight Banners Manchu Clan Genealogy, vol. 2.
